About Heskett Construction

Dan Heskett, Founder

At the age of 15, in 1974, Daniel Heskett started to do shingle roofs for customers that he had on his paper route. In 1976 when he graduated from high school he started the company known as Heskett Construction. He continued building the company in the evenings while attending Shawnee State University, where he studied Civil Engineering. In 1978 the company had grown to 3 full time carpenters and Daniel had a decision to make, follow the career path of becoming a surveyor (his major in college) or devote full time to the construction business. He chose the construction business.

By this time, the company was completing whole home remodeling projects. In 1982, he ventured into commercial construction where they completed turnkey buildings for the C.C.I. Prison State of Ohio, school projects, churches, doctor offices, carry outs, and various other commercial projects. In 1988, he switched gears and completed his first multi home project. It was a 21-unit home design-build project in Portsmouth, Ohio that was completed in record time. Daniel was drawn to the home building industry because more attention could be given to the building project and he valued quality craftsmanship. He then started to build custom homes on developer’s lots, both contract and spec homes. In 1990 he purchased a 101 acre farm and started his first development. Since that time, Heskett Construction has designed and built over 100 custom homes in Ross, Pike, and Pickaway counties. Heskett Construction has not forgotten the remodeling industry, still completing numerous exterior, kitchen and bath, roofing, and whole house projects. Daniel is very involved in the building and remodeling of the homes, from designing the projects on the Soft Plan drawing system to swinging a hammer in the construction process.

Ben has been working full time for Heskett Construction for over 10 years now.  Ben was born in 1991 to Dan & Sarah Heskett and is the older brother of two (Phillip).  When Ben was a toddler his dad would bring him to the jobsite to just play around the site and in the gravel piles with his toys.  As Ben got a little older his dad would have him do small jobs like sweeping the floors, picking up trash and unloading/loading tools from the company truck to learn tool identification.  When he was around 12 years old Ben was already driving large equipment and company trucks on the jobsite.  At 15 Ben was working full time during summer and winter breaks working on everything from forming and pouring the foundations all the way to finish trim.  In 2009 Ben graduated from Zane Trace High School.  In the Fall of 2009 Ben enrolled at Sinclair Community College to major in Construction Management.  In Spring of 2010 Ben transferred to Ohio Northern University.  He decided to dual major in Construction Management and technology Education all while playing 4 years of varsity baseball at ONU.  During summer breaks Ben would work full time with the company while playing College Summer Baseball for multiple Columbus teams.  In the Fall of 2014 Ben graduated from ONU with a dual major.  After Ben graduated, he started to work for the company full time all year around.  Today Ben still works on all the different jobs that Heskett Construction takes on.  He is responsible for the material that is used on the job as well as making sure that the sub-contractors have all the supplies they need.  Ben has also brought the company into the 21st century by creating and managing the company’s social media as well as managing the grounds and maintenance at Countryside Acre Apartments.  Ben now lives with his wife Alissa in the Chillicothe area and loves to spend time with his family, especially his niece and nephews and being involved with his church (Brookside Church).
